AGC Band Concert
Last week Mr. Henry conducted the AGC Band for our Winter Concert at Curtin. The bands sounded great and played some groovey tunes to get everyone in the spirit. It was a well attended event. We would like to thank Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Logue for putting out the treats following all of our music performances.

Check out the ceiling tiles in Mr. Kaufman's class that students did in his art class. They used pastel colors to brighten up the place. Pretty cool!

Turkey Bowl 2007
O.K. Which one is the turkey? Can you pick out any Curtin staff members? I was told that Mr. Decker runs a 4.3 40 yard dash. If you look closely you can find a Curtin student in the pic. We could call it, Where's Colin F? Hope everyone had as much fun as these fine athletes did over the Thanksgiving holiday.

The Dome!
Have you had the chance to check out the Dome? It is pretty impressive inside. I think that it is great that we have such a facility such as the Dome in our area. You have to get down there to check it out. If you a sports enthusiast and are looking for some physical activity to participate in over the winter months, this may be the place for you. They have soccer, lacrosse, flag football, golf, and batting cages available. Pretty cool for the upcoming winter time blues.
Fantasy Football
Be sure to ask Mr. Z who won our last Fantasy Football head-to-head competition last weekend. It was total domination by............me! As he left many points on the bench.

Veterans Honored by 7th grade!
Seventh grade students honored Veterans of our great nation this past Veteran's Day! Students were able to demonstrate their appreciation for the service people of our country. Seventh grade students at Curtin performed music, read poems, and personal letters of gratitude honoring our heroes! The local reserve unit even brought two vehichles, rations, equipment, and experience to explain how life in the military works. I want to thank all of the seventh grade team for working together to make this experience happen for our students! It made me proud to be an American!

Parent Conferences at AGC!
November 8 and 9 were Parent Teacher Conferences at ACG. This is an excellent opportunity for parents to meet and discuss the progress of their child's academic progress. Did you give your very best effort? If the answer is "yes" thank you. If not, you have some work to do. Make it a goal to make Honor Roll for marking period 2, you can do it!

Mayoral Forum at Curtin
Mr. B and 7th grade World History students sponsored a mayoral forum. This was an excellent opportunity for our students to get involved in the electoral process. Students wrote questions and kept time for responses. We appreciate everyone's effort in pulling this event off in our very own Andrew G. Curtin Middle School Auditiorium.

Detroit Lions a Contender?
This is great! The Detroit Lions are actually winning games. That is pretty cool with the improvement they have made from previous years when they were actually horrible. They can keep on winning as long as they don't beat the Steelers! Improvement can come in many ways as long as you keep working on it!
Baby "Z" is Here! Congrats!
The Zangara family added another member to their clan over a week ago. Mr. Zangara is very used to handling baby girls being that this is his third daughter. Luckily Mrs. Z and Mr. Z have two great helpers in their home to assist with the new addition.

Crazy Hair Day - Bark at the Moon!
I have to say that Mr. Z looks pretty good in blue hair. It is a rather long mullet cut. For myself, I am just glad to have hair at the ripe age of 37. Rock on Curtin students keep up the great work!
Mr. Z looks like a future father! He is going to be a father once again tomorrow most likely. It was supposed to happen this past Wednesday. Maybe his future daughter is scared, I don't know why with that blue hair and all?

Family Fun Night at Curtin 2007
Curtin Staff hosted Family Fun Night on October 19th to our students and their families. We flew in two sumo wrestlers from Tokyo, Mr. Plowman and Mr. Bartholomew, they look good in their new bodies...so much for the "Healthy Zone." On the right you will see the food servers for the evening, serving our gourmet hot dogs. Great job Mrs. Good, Mrs. Kimball, and Ms. Marriott. Ms. Datres and Ms. Eiswerth handled the basket raffle. Thanks to their salesperson skills, the PTO raised over $200.00. Thanks to all who donated their time or items to this fun night for our families.

Torre - She He Stay or Should He Go?
My heart goes out to three NY Yankees fans...My son, Connor, my son's third grade teacher, Mr. Cioffi, and Mr. Zangara. The question remains; should Joe Torre be fired as the Yanks manager? It seems like the Yankees need some serious batting practice under that huge payroll. They can send some of that loot toward my broke Pittsburgh Pirates.

Williamsport Proud!
Be sure to check out the new banner hanging outside the office at Curtin. Each school in the WASD has one of these banners on display. It is a pleasure working in our great school district! Did you know that Mr. Fatherly, the principal at Roosevelt Middle School designed this banner. He did an awesome job!

Curtin Football Beats Lyco Valley
The Governor Football Team came up with their first victory this past Thursday at WAHS Stadium. The orange and black used tough tackling, speed and offensive explosiveness to defeat the Pioneers. The guys used a great sense of teamwork and class in securing this win. Hats off to Coach Decker, Coach Allison, and Coach Sweeting for preparing our players for this game. Next opponent...Bucktail this week. Go get'em boys!

ipod-Does Everybody Need One?
My oldest son just celebrated his tenth birthday last weekend. It is amazing how time flies when you reach adult life. He wanted an ipod for his birthday. My wife and I consider this to be a luxury item which we always encourage our kids to save their own money to purchase something like this for themselves. My son did just that with is birthday money. We ordered it last night. Hopefully he can show me some tricks to using this as a technological tool. I can remember when the cassestte walkman was the big rave! Ask you parents about that one.

Beaver Stadium - PSU
My son Cameron and I went to the Penn State game this past weekend at Beaver Stadium. The Nittany Lions played the University of Buffalo. This was his first game and he liked the atmosphere, especially the "wave." We were able to check out the PSU Blue Band at half time. Penn State went to 3 and 0 with this victory. Michigan this weekend. It should be a great game.

Steelers Style!
Here we go! Steelers are off to a great start for the 2007 season! Willie Parker was awesome today going well over 100 yards for the day. Things are good right now in P-Burg, looking forward to a very productive season under the direction of new head coach, Mike Tomlin. Is a Super Bowl run in the makings? Let me know what you think.

Sorry about the lapse of postings as of late...
Check this out! Ms. Bower, 8th grade mathematics teacher, at Curtin was honored on a mural painted in Jersey Shore to honor all people who have served our great nation. Ms. Bower is the first service person on the mural. Here is a picture of her checking out herself on the mural. Pretty cool! AGC-The Governor Himself
A little information about our school's namesake:
Andrew Gregg Curtin (April 22, 1817 – October 7, 1894) was a U.S. lawyer and politician who served as Governor of Pennsylvania during the American Civil War.
Curtin was born in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania. He attended Dickinson College and the Dickinson School of Law and was employed as a lawyer. His first public office was as Secretary of the Commonwealth. In 1855, Governor James Pollock appointed him as Superintendent of Public Schools. He switched political allegiance from the Whigs to the new Republican political party in 1860, with his successful run for governor. He served in that office from 1861 until 1867.
