Tomorrow...STEELERS go on a bird hunt.

My friend Tyler shared this bird hunt pic with me over the weekend. Way cool! Here it is...my prediction for the game. Steelers 24, Cardinals 10. Total points scored 34. I think the Steelers defense will take over the game and shut down the one dimensional Cardinal offense. All you Steeler fans out there be sure to wear your black and gold on Monday if they win.
My favorite player is Troy Polamalu who will have a huge game.

Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story

On Saturday, February 7th, TNT will premiere "Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story." You are probably wondering why your principal is encouraging you to watch television. This TV movie is significant because Dr. Carson is coming to Williamsport on May 20th to speak at the CAC. If you want to learn more about Dr. Ben Carson or find out other TNT movie times check out TNT's website

Check Out These Guys

Check this newspaper clipping from 1986. Our very own Mr. Nye, a hard hitting linebacker at WAHS, and his sidekick, Mr. Fausnaught, aka "Sweetness." Two gridiron greats from WAHS. Go Millionaires! This is why it is important for you to order your Curtin yearbooks fro $10. See Mrs. Cauley to place your order.

Another "Snow Day" is in the books. This makes number three for the school year. What did you do today? Shovel walks to make some extra dollars, went to the library ( I heard that it is awesome, I hope to get there this weekend ), read a good book? I would love to hear about it. Back to school tomorrow and we have some catching up to do. Another day closer to Super Bowl XLIII. Go STEELERS!

The Roman Empire

Mr. B's class presented their research culminating projects to each other last week. A puppet show was presented and a Powerpoint on the Coliseum. This seems better than taking a test. Nice work.

We appreciate the effort put forth on the 4Sight tests today. We will run a 2 hour delay schedule again tomorrow for the math portion of the 4Sight. Good Luck!

WASD School Board Recognition

Congratulations to Tori Knight who presented two books to school board directors, Thomas Zimmerman and Lois Williams, in honor of their service to our school district. The two books will be placed in our library in their honor. You can see the other students from schools across the district who participated in this event. Tori was selected because of her excellent attitude, work ethic, and citizenship in our school. She represents the very best in our school. Congratulations Tori! The School Board meeting included a presentation by Vern McKissick regarding our recent district-wide feasibility study. Four options are part of this study as the future of our schools in the WASD.

Inauguration 2009 Making History

Today our 44th President of the United States was sworn in to serve this great country. What an event for President Obama. Thanks to all of our staff for making it possible for our students to view today throughout the school day. You will remember where you were when President Obama took office. Learn more about the President's residence, The White House.
Check out Air Force One, the president's new mode of transportation. I could get used to that form of traveling. The plane is so large that you take your car with you.

The Best of Queen by Curtin Orchestra

This clip is from the Spring '08 concert. It was awesome! I found it on Youtube and thought you may like to watch. Way cool! You may need to watch it outside of the school network due to the internet filtering system. Mr. Radspinner is directing and Mr. Beatty is jamming on the guitar.

Yearbooks Still 4Sale!

Remember that yearbooks are still for sale. Only $10 to capture all of your great Curtin memories and friends this school year. See Mrs. Cauley if you haven't purchased your yearbook.

This is a great picture of Mrs. Armstrong and Malasia at the incentive assembly.

Now this is a singing group. Mr. Decker has the best singing voice ever! Actually, Mr. Z's may be better. What do you think?

Library Getting a New Look!

We just want to thank Mr. Zapola for being a master painter. He has jump started our library to give it the new look for the Ben Carson Reading room. Thanks for your steady hand Mr. Zapola. We also want to thank Dr. Kelley for keeping Curtin in mind for this exciting opportunity and Mrs. Beattie for being the go to person to get the job done.

American Idol - Season 8

Season 8 of American Idol has started and it was an interesting beginning. I typically don't get to interested in the specifics of the show until the competition actually begins but some of the people who audition...hilarious.

Ben Carson Reading Room Coming to Curtin

A Ben Carson Reading Project Room is being developed to be created in the Curtin library. Curtin recently received confirmation about putting a reading room in our school. The Ben Carson Scholarship Foundation is giving us a grant of $10,000 to do this endeavor. Did you know that Dr. Ben Carson is a world renowned pediatric neurosurgeon? He is most noted for the successful separation of siamese twins. We have to have the room completed at Curtin by May 1, 2009. Another important piece of information is that Dr. Carson is coming to the Williamsport Community Arts Center to speak to the community on May 20th. Admission is free to all students K-12. One last thing is that you can learn more about Dr. Carson by watching the made for television movie which will be on TNT this Saturday. It is called the Ben Carson Story: Gifted Hands. This is great news for our school.

Advantages of Being a Principal

I want to thank Mr. F. for sending me this link to a Real-tv show about the life and job of principals. I found this clip which I thought was so true in the kinds of things that matter when you are a principal. There is plenty of truth to this short clip found on the website.

Here we go...Steelers, Here we go...The Steelers are goin...

Steelers looked great Sunday night against the Chargers. Things are starting to line up for a possible all PA Super Bowl. The Steelers need to get past the Ravens for the first time this year. I wonder if the lone Ravens fan in our school will wear his Jersey this week? You are probably wondering who this may be? It is "G"-Gennarro Girardi. Eagles need to jump past the Cardinals in Arizona. Mr. Decker will be all over that game.

Falconer Visits Curtin Today

Mr. Kuriga visited AGC today to speak to our 7th graders about raptors and birds of prey. He was actually able to bring in a live red-tailed hawk. Mr. Haines made the contact to get this set up for our students. We really appreciate him coming in to discuss his passion for "hawking."

Beauty and the Beast, Jr. Coming to AGC

The Curtin Chamber Choir has started rehearsing for their annual musical directed by Mrs. Hickey and Mrs. Welty. Stay tuned for ticket information and show dates. I am sure it will be an outstanding production. Josh Thomas is a beast! I mean the Beast.

Winners

This exceptional volleyball squad looked up for the challenge to take on the teachers right before winter break. What a great day planned by the Incentive Committee. We had Black Box Theatre from WAHS, school concert, and volleyball.

Quote of the Day

BCS Game

I am sitting here watching the BCS game and the Gators just stopped Oklahoma 4th and goal. What a game so far. Wonder how this thing will turnout. Do you think Mr. Aarons is routing for the Gators? His nickname is "Florida," do you know why? Do you know what his most proficient sport is? I will give you a hint, it isn't table tennis. I have housed him 4 games to 1 win. I only lost because I played with my left foot.

Boys Basketball

The 7th grade team dropped their first loss of the season to South Williamsport. The 8th grade team went to 2-0 as they defeated South tonight. Nice work guys! They play Warrior Run on Thursday at Warrior Run. They are back home this coming Saturday at 11AM vs. Danville. Coach Ross's hometown.

Big Game Coming Up!

Sunday the Steelers play the Chargers at 4:30. I like any kind of playoff game, because of the elimination aspect. Hopefully the Steelers are victorious. Congrats to all you Eagles fans. I am currently watching the Texas vs. OSU game on TV. Hopefully the Big Ten can win one game this Bowl season. I remember when Penn State housed Texas in the same Bowl game in 1997. Check out Mr. Fausnaught's blog if you want some great pics of LA and the Rose Bowl trip he went on over the holiday.

Rose Bowl - Underwhelmed

The Lions found out what life was like outside the Big 10 yesterday. I am still a big fan but USC was unstoppable in the first half. PSU did not help matters with the penalties in the first half. Wonder what Coach Decker would have done in the first half to stop the bleeding?
