Dr. Ben Carson at AGC

What a great day it was at AGC last Wednesday! Dr. Ben Carson was able to come and officially open the Ben Carson Reading Room. He was able to speak to our students in the auditorium and join sponsors, students, staff, and community members in the library for a reception. The Reading Room is awesome! I was able to go and see him speak at the CAC that evening. He truly inspired and others who attended this event. What a gifted person. His motto, "Think Big." He discussed how it is impossible for your brain to be on overload...gather all the information and knowledge you possibly can. He encourages everyone to take risks as learners in your life. Did you know he was appointed as the director of pediatric neurosurgery at the age of 33.

Marathon Man

Well, we have proof that Mr. Forney finished the marathon he ran this past weekend. He said it went well and he enjoyed the experience. I don't know about you but icing the knees doesn't look that comfortable. Congratulations to Mr. Forney, it is quite an accomplishment. 26.5 miles of running...ouch!

Career Exploration

Check out Navarro, Hadiya, and G'Kara at Robert M. Sides Music Center testing the audio equipment. They went to RMS as part of our 8th grade Career Exploration Week. I heard that Mr. Greevy took them to Mulberry Street Cafe for lunch too.

Is Mr. Menges a Lumberjack?

I think Mr. Menges would make a fine lumberjack. Great job on the lumber lesson. What a great way to make students aware of Williamsport's great past.

It was certainly a beautiful day outside today. Remember that the Diversity Festival will be happening on Friday in Brandon Park from 5-7PM. Hope to see you there. Great food, fun, and entertainment.

8th graders who signed up for the Knoebel's trip on Saturday. Be at Curtin no later than 10:45 AM. We will leave promptly at 11:00 AM. Returning at about 7:30 P.M.

CAREER EXPLORATION TODAY
8th grade students went to Larson Design, Impact Advertising, Susquehanna Health, Williamsport Prostetic and Orthopedic, Sun Gazzette today. We appreciate these local businesses opening their doors for the students at AGC to learn about careers.

Career Exploration or Ghostbusters?

This week is Career Exploration Week at Curtin for our 8th grade students. Today a group of students went to the Nanotech lab at PSU. Mr. Ross, Amanda, and John look like they are playing roles in the Invasion of the Bodysnatchers. Nanotech is super small science focusing around technological advances. Way cool! Mr. Ross looks good in the white hair net. The glasses do him justice too. We also had students visit Lewis Vet Clinic and Dr. Robert Fredrickson's dental office on Market Street.

Reading Room is Taking Shape...May 20th Coming Soon!

What is Ms. Hannan jumping for joy about? The soon to be opening of our Ben Carson Reading Room. Check it out as Mrs. Beattie, Mrs. Feinstein, Mrs. Thompson, Mrs. Confair, and Ms. Bierman are all painting the space in our library. Cool lighting and the partition sets the room off. Looking forward to the grand opening on May 20th. Dr. Carson will be joining us in the school to do the ribbon cutting. We certainly appreciate the help from everyone getting this project off the ground. Remember...Keep THINKING BIG! Check out Mr. Z doing an inspection.

8th Grader Lumberjacks...Old School!

Mr. Menges' PA Studies class was able to see how hard lumberjacks had to work during the timber era of Williamsport. They had a cross saw contest and recorded times. Mr. Forney and Gabe were torched by Josh and Isaac. What a great experience for our students to engage in right on our front lawn.
