Curtin Gridiron

The Curtin Governors are off and running with a 2-1 record with victories over Berwick and Lyco Valley. You can see Coach Decker calling a play during the Berwick game - "20 pop pass" right coach? The Mighty Gov's break the huddle...stellar defense in all games thus far boys, keep up the great job! Get ready for the Pep Rally and Tailgate Party on Oct. 9th before the Roosevelt game.

AR Catalog is Available on our Website

Check this out everyone! You are able to search books that may be of interest to you as a reader as you attempt to reach your AR goal. You can click on the AR BOOKFINDER and find out if there is a quiz for a particular book or find out the book level to find out if it is an independent read for you. Pretty cool! Works well if you just don't know what to read? You can do an advanced search or collections search.

I also wanted to mention that our annual Book Fair will be in the library next week. Be sure to pay a visit and scope out what books are available. You can purchase a book with Mrs. Beattie or attend Family Fun Night with your parents to purchase books. Our goal is to sell 250 books! All proceeds support the Curtin library.

AGC Softball

The Lady Governor softball team is in full swing! They were 2-1 as of earlier today. They played Roosevelt this evening. Good luck girls! I really like the way Coach Stine, Coach Maffett, and Coach Cramer are working with the girls this season. Awesome job! We have 12 girls on the team now.

The football team has their first game tomorrow at Wyoming Valley West. Finally they get to play a game. Good luck guys. I was able to play in the annual two hand touch tourney last Friday. My team was 1-3. It has been a long time since I ran with the Governor Football Team. The last time was in 1982 as a 7th grade QB.

First Roni Game

My soccer team played their first game this past weekend. We are the U10 Roni Team out of Balls Mills. We play in the Nor Cen Pen League. We lost over the weekend to North Umberland. Our next game is this Sunday in Bloomsburg. My son Cameron is a midfielder on the team.

Captain Hill Visits AGC!

Captain Hill of the PA State Police paid a visit to our lunch periods the other day. He just wanted to drop in and visit with our students. His mission is to actively recruit youngsters to aspire to become a State Troopers! What an awesome goal. Did you know Capt. Hill has been in the State Police for 27 years. He even let students try on his Trooper hat.

AGC Open House on Monday Night!

Make sure you tell your parents to come and visit your teachers on Monday night (9/8/08) from 6:30-8PM. Hope to see everyone there. This is a great way to make beginning of the year connections with your teachers.

Steelers Win Big!

Fast Willy Parker, Big Ben, and the Taz Devil started their season off on the right foot with a big win over the Houston Texans. Cleveland is next weekend.

My Fantasy Football Team slammed Mr. Ross's team too. I am 1-0 in week one of the league. There are 20 teams involved this year. Brett Favre is my QB and he threw for two touchdowns today. Nice work for an old timer!

Steelers Fans Ranked Best!

When you have fans that wave Terrible Towels at the Olympics, take them with them to the top of mountain ranges, and wave them after saying “I Do,” then you know that you have a strong fan base.

Now, others are acknowledging it as well.

As a part of their 2008 NFL Preview ESPN.com ranked the NFL’s 32 teams fan bases. And the Steelers finished first.

ESPN’s divisional bloggers were asked to rank fans over the past five seasons, using criteria such as how well they travel, tailgating, loyalty during tough times and other topics.

The Steelers finished tied for first in the poll with the Green Bay Packers, but with a winner needing to be determined the Steelers were given the edge by ESPN.com’s football writer John Clayton cast the deciding vote.
