To Kill A Mockingbird!

I would like to thank District Magistrate Sortman for coming to Curtin today to speak with our 8th grade students about a law trial. 8th grade students are currently reading To Kill A Mockingbird. Mr. Greevy used his connections to pull this together. Great experience for our students! It is great to get experts to come in and share their knowledge with our students. Tomorrow...sixth grade is hosting Professor John Good from Penn College who is going to discuss robotics with our students.

Enough said...

We are keeping an eye on you!

Our Brown Bag "Brains Are Us" group finished their cycle last week. Students worked with Lycoming College students and Professor Dr. Mary Morrison on learning about the function of the brain. Check out Julia dissecting a cow's eyeball. Way cool! Thanks for advising this course of study at AGC Mr. Ross! Way cool! Look out for next year to get involved in Brown Bag!

Congrats WASD! 100 Best Music Communities to Live in again.

While the economy may be taking a toll on arts programs elsewhere, that's not necessarily the case in the Williamsport Area School District, recently recognized for a seventh time as one of the nation's "Best Communities for Music Education." This was the headline in the Sun-Gazette today. Kudos to all of our talented students and staff. Thanks for making WASD a great place to learn music education.

AGC Chamber Orchestra Goes to Happy Valley!

The Curtin Chamber Orchestra traveled to Penn State University today to work with one Rob Nairn. Rob teaches double bass at Penn State and the Julliard School of music. Rob is also in high demand as one of the top baroque era bassists in the world. Rob worked with the chamber orchestra for two hours and then wowed the group with some playing. The chamber orchestra then did a small walking tour of the North West side of campus (Mr. Radspinner’s old stomping grounds). Mr. Radspinner served as a "trucker" driving the WASD van. Nice work Good Buddy!

Judicial Forum at AGC

Great job last night to the three social studies teachers at Curtin for sponsoring a very informative event for all. Students wrote great questions for the four candidates. Thanks to all who attended. Hopefully you have a better understanding the importance of a judicial race. Be sure to vote on the blog for you judicial candidate. Mr. B did a nice job moderating.

AGC Strong!

Wow! The track teams looked great last evening at the high school. Records are being broken or pushed. Give it up for Taron Dinkins who beat the school record in the high jump and Brianna Vincent who broke the school record in the 100m. Awesome job by everyone.

Pirates First Place!

My Pirates are in first place after Opening Day. They beat the St. Louis Cardinals in the 9th inning with a bases loaded double by Jack Wilson. I love this time of year when the Pirates win. Hopefully they can continue their streak of wins?
